Jurassic National Monument

Jurassic National Monument is home to the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry.

Elmer Riggs, a local sheepherder, noted the area contained an unusual number of dinosaur bones. His reports led to excavation and preservation efforts.

From 1939-1941, Malcolm Lloyd financed a field party from Princeton University led by William Lee Stokes to escavate the area which the called Cleveland-Lloyd after the financier and the sites proximity to Cleveland, Utah.

Through the years, paleontologists have discovered over 12,000 individual bones including bones belonging to Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, Camarasaurus, Ceratosaurus, and several small theropods.

The park was elevated to a National Monument by President Donald Trump in 2019 at which point it was renamed "Jurassic National Monument."
